Syka first became interested in Middle Eastern dance at the age of 15. She was inspired by Ziah while working at the Ga Renaissance Festival and knew it was something she wanted to pursue.
After years of independent study, she was encouraged by her best friend and former member of Awalim, Jacqueline, to begin her formal training in January 2005 with director of Awalim, Ziah Ali.
Syka has performed at several venues through out Atlanta with both Big City Burlesque as well as Banat Almeh and has had the opportunity to take classes with Rachel Brice, Moria, Heather Stantz, Rachel Lazarus Soto, Jill Parker, Zoe Jakes, Mira Betz, and Elizabeth Strong.
After auditioning December of 2006, she was asked to join Awalim and she eagerly accepted. She looks forward to continuing her training and performing along side the ladies of the Awalim dance company.
When not dancing, Syka works as a customer service specialist at Lithonia Lighting and moonlights as a figure model througout Atlanta for local artists and plans weddings and events in her free time. If that wasn't enough, she also makes time to spend with her boyfriend, friends, family, and her 4 four-legged children.
